The alliance brings together the world class energy products and knowhow of Siemens with the world class systems engineering capabilities of the Boeing company. Together we make a combination of capabilities to address the challenges of energy security for DOD.
It’s a vision that allows for energy independence. It allows for energy efficiency. It allows for predictable lower cost energy and it allows our military to worry about the mission they have at hand, which is protecting our national security while they have reliable secure energy.
The two companies will jointly develop and market energy technologies to the Department of Defense. The overall goal: improved energy access and security at an affordable cost for the nation’s military at home and abroad.
And the challenge they face today is at times they’re dependent on the local utilities, which work, but at certain times in today and in the future there might be the need to island or to to cut themselves off from the grid for security reasons, either physical security reasons or virtual security reasons and between Siemens and Boeing we have an offer that will help them do that. We talk about that as a micro-grid.
This secure micro-grid management system offered by Siemens and Boeing is designed to implement economical energy-efficiency tools, use smart energy controls to help better manage energy use and integrate renewable energy sources in storage.
"Creating smart and secure micro grids require unprecedented levels of interoperability, integrational legacy systems, communications and security. These are problems that we’ve been solving in the Department of Defense for decades. Very similar problem, very similar approaches and our people have the expertise built on decades of performance."
